Hand therapists can work as consultants with various industries to establish preventive programs for workers at risk of developing cumulative trauma disorders. They recommend modifications of work stations and alternative work methods to help ensure healthy work styles of all employees.

The CHT credential
is the ultimate level of recognition in the specialty of hand therapy today. These credentials are awarded solely to Occupational or Physical Therapists who have reached a high level of competency through the process defined by the Hand Therapy Certification Commission (HTCC). The certification process requires that the therapist have a minimum of five years experience. In addition, advanced studies and extensive continuing medical education courses are necessary to be eligible to take the national certifying examination. Certification must be renewed every five years.
