Certified Bone Densitometry Technologist (CBDT TM) is a professional certification in the field of bone densitometry for technologists who perform central bone densitometry scans. The CBDTTM credential signifies that an individual has passed an examination that has been designed to meet the stringent certification industry standards and best practices in the United States.
Only technologists who are currently registered — have renewed within the past year — may designate themselves as ARRT Registered Technologists and use the initials “R.T.” after their names. A person is certified by American Registry of Radiologic Technologists after meeting educational preparation standards, complying with ethics standards, and passing a certification exam.
BD is a post-primary certification in Bone Densitometry. Candidates for post-primary certification must be registered by ARRT in the appropriate supporting discipline to be eligible.
Though levels of ionizing radiation around the scanner are low, Bone Densitometry Technicians operating the densitometers are required to wear film badges for dosimetry processing and to observe strict safety and quality control procedures.
