-provides caller with assessment, evaluation, disposition, and education and prevention information regarding human toxic exposures using medically approved guidelines in computer software systems.
-recommends treatments or make referrals to health care facilities
-obtains caller background histories
-maintains records of calls.
-assists with poison-related education of health care professional.

Poison information provider education:
Degree in Nursing, Pharmacy, or Medicine, or a nationally certified Physician Assistant. Interpersonal skills necessary to successfully communicate with individuals of multiple cultural and educational backgrounds.
