-Recognize and respect the rights of the aged to a continued life of usefulness and happiness.
-Help preserve life, ease patient’s suffering and work toward restoring health to all.
-Consider all needs including social, physical, emotional and spiritual.
-Be loyal to your employer, patients co-workers, and the facility in which you work.
-Practice good health habits in order to keep your own good health. Sound health habits include nutritious meals, sufficient rest and sleep , time for relaxation and recreation when off duty, and prompt reporting of any sign of illness. Periodic health check-ups are needed to prevent illness.
-Be neat and well-groomed at all times while on duty and pay attention to your own hygiene and cleanliness.
-Give nursing care on the same level to all patients regardless of their racial or religious beliefs. Show equal courtesy and respect to all patients.
-Keep all information about patients and families confidential when outside the facility.
-Carry out your duties responsibly and to the best of your ability. Be cooperative and communicative when working with others and show respect for the work done by others.
-Never perform a procedure or give a treatment you are not qualified to perform. Do not carry out a patient’s request unless positive it is appropriate to do so. Always check first with nurse in charge.
-Never discuss your own personal problems and affairs with patients.
Make the patient’s welfare and safety the first concern.
Care for your patients as taught to do so, be willing to learn new skills and update old ones.
Be flexible and willing to accept changes in tasks and assignments which will improve the quality of patient care.
If the patient’s welfare and safety are in jeopardy by actions of other personnel, you are obligated to make this known. The complaint should be made first to your charge nurse. After one week, if you do not see a resolution to the situation, write your complaint and submit it to the Director of Nurses. You should be informed of steps taken to resolve the situation. |

Nowadays, hospital budgets cuts become a necessity, therefore the shrinking hospital budget required the hiring of fewer nurses and more nursing assistants. Hospitals are hiring and training nursing assistants in large numbers, and this trend is expected to continue .
The mental health community increase its needs for more nursing assistance services, as well. Elderly people are the fastest growing population in the U.S; many of aged people need nursing assistant because they are unable care for themselves. One in four people will be aged eighty-five and over in the nearest future, there will be 100% increase in job opportunities fore nursing assistants in home health agencies.

Presbyterian Homes' The Moorings of Arlington Heights is sponsoring a nine-week, tuition-free Basic Nurse Assistant Training Program beginning Sept. 17. Graduates who pass a state competency test given by the Illinois Department of Public Health become Certified Nursing Assistants. In the private sector, a Certified Nursing Assistant training course would cost between $400 and $600.
Participants in the training class:
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must attend a orientation class and interview to be held 9 a.m. Sept. 10 in the Health Center
• Pass a reading comprehension test.
The nine-week course runs until Nov. 16 and will be held Monday through Friday at The Moorings of Arlington Heights, a continuing care retirement community, at 811 E. Central Road.
Classroom days will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Clinical days or "hands-on" training is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Clinical days take place in the Health Care Center at The Moorings and allow the students to apply what they have learned.
Though tuition is free, there are associated fees of $115 and a $50 fee in the form of a money order required by The Illinois Department of Public Health to take the competency exam for certification. The fees are due the final week of class. Presbyterian Homes is seeking individuals who are caring and compassionate. Certified Nursing Assistants are employed by hospitals, long-term care facilities, home health agencies and by families for in-home care. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, an additional 874,000 paraprofessional, direct care workers will be needed by the year 2010.
The Moorings of Arlington Heights, a member of Presbyterian Homes, is a continuing care retirement community located on Central Road just east of Arlington Heights Road. The majority of nursing assistants are women aged 25 to 35 , and mid-life women aged 39 to 55 are the second largest group. For many of this women , this is the second or third career. The majority of these women work for nursing homes. A significant number of younger women now enter this career
Male Nursing Assistant
Male represent 35-40% of nursing assistants. The majority of them work for hospitals. The percentage of males in this vocation is increasing nationwide due to downsizing. Mid-life men are looking for new career opportunities
Retirees Nursing assistants
Many retirees want to work as nursing assistants to supplement pensions. Retirees are capable workers who interact well with others and are rarely absent from work. |
