Program Type: Adult and Continuing Education
Description: The Practical Nursing program offers the opportunity for adult students to practice patient-centered nursing care for all age groups. Nursing theory and patient care lab skills taught in the classroom are combined with a supervised clinical experience to develop a knowledgeable, competent nurse. This part-time, 2-year program is registered by the New York State Education Department for 1,230 hours of combined academic and clinical instruction. Admission requirements: High school diploma or equivalency diploma, pre-entrance test, pre-admission interview with the Nursing Coordinator, physical examination showing the student to be in good health and required immunizations. The Practical Nursing program is offered at 3 locations; Belmont, Olean and Ellicottville. Students enjoy small classes with quality instruction. CA BOCES has high standard with a proven track record of a 100% pass rate of the NYS licensing exam.
Cattaraugus-Allegany BOCES prepares the student for the practice of Licensed Practical Nursing in a variety of settings. This part-time program allows time for job and/or family responsibilities while going to school. Nursing theory and patient care lab skills taught in the classroom are combined with supervised clinical experience to develop a knowledgeable, competent Practical Nurse. Graduates receive a diploma and are eligible to apply for licensure as a Practical Nurse.
Clinical experiences are an essential part of the Nursing program. Through supervision by faculty, the student is able to gain competence and knowledge in caring for a patient or group of patients in a hospital or health-related agency.
The program is registered by the New York State Education Department. Classroom instructors are registered professional nurses and hold adult education certification from the New York State Education Department. Students may apply for financial aid. (PELL grants, Stafford loans, and various funding sources).
Case Managers are available to offer assistance in resume writing, interviewing skills and job placement.
To be considered eligible for admission to the Practical Nursing Program, an applicant must register to take the entrance test by calling Christine Halliday at 716-376-8268.

Positions are readily available with local and out-of-state health agencies. Annual earnings for Practical Nurses range from $24,920 to $34,800.
