FOR the past eight months, registered nurse Kath Randall has been acting nurse manager at Inverell District Hospital. And much to her excitement, Mrs Randall was officially appointed to the role early this week.
“I am very pleased and I am finally in a position where I can help people even more because not only will I be helping patients, I will be helping staff provide effective care,” the 31-year-old said. “Because I grew up in Inverell I am very passionate about this town and hospital, and I look forward to what is ahead.
“There are just so many opportunities here for young nurses and I enjoy the challenge of helping staff develop their skills and knowledge.”
Mrs Randall completed here Bachelor of Nursing at the University of New England in 2005.
She was then selected to take part in a midwifery program through Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga.
Mrs Randall completed her postgraduate nursing at Inverell District Hospital and also spent time working in the United Kingdom in various fields of nursing.
“I am so grateful that I chose to stay and not go to Brisbane like I had originally intended because it has just been a wonderful experience here.
“I was also clinical services manager for some time before I started relieving this position.”
“The team is just fantastic here and I feel this new role will give me a chance to payback the hospital for allowing me to have that experience.”
Mrs Randall said she was looking forward to now having ownership of the role.
“Before when I was relieving there was a lot of pressure,” she said.
“But now it is my official role I am really looking forward to working with my team members to give the best care to our patients.
“I am very passionate and with a great nursing team behind me I am certain I can meet the challenges of this new role.
“Being a local I also hope my knowledge will provide the Inverell hospital with the management it requires, but also the leadership it deserves.”
McIntyre Cluster general manager Lynne Shands said Mrs Randall’s appointment was positive news for the Inverell community.
“Kath is a seasoned health professional with a wide-ranging experience in hands-on clinical work, which provides a strong support for the transition into management,” Ms Shands said.
“The appointment of a permanent nurse manager will provide the level of stability required to lead the hospital and enable a planned approach to service provision and activity in the future.” source
