The health care field is growing and career opportunities are expanding for persons with appropriate educational preparation. Practical nurses play a critical role in hospitals, clinics, physician's offices, nursing homes, rehabilitation homes and private home care. Opportunities for employment have increased in response to a national nursing shortage.

NCCC offers a one-year academic experience which leads to a non-credit certificate in Practical Nursing. Upon completion of the program, the student is eligible to take the National Council License Examination (NCLEX-PN), a national examination for licensing.
The Practical Nurse Clock Hour program offers clinical experiences at hospitals, health care facilities and community agencies in both Niagara and Erie counties to provide students with important clinical experiences in all areas of health care.
The faculty in the program are dedicated to students' success. The entire Nurse faculty have advanced degrees in Nursing.
The Practical Nurse Clock Hour program is registered with the New York State Education Department.
Minimum Certificate Requirements
1) A total of at least 12 credit hours plus 433 mandated clock hours LPN 101 and 543 clock hours for LPN 102 with a minimum Curriculum Grade Point Average of 2.0. Academic Foundations courses do not count towards the certificate.
2) LPN Courses to include: LPN 101 Nursing Fundamentals LPN 102 Advanced Fundamentals 3) Nursing: A minimum of 3 credit hours to include: NUR 102 Nursing Process NUR 103 Communication with Health Team NUR 105 Medication Simulation 4) Biology: A minimum of 3 credit hours to include: BIO 181 Human Biology for Practical Nurses* 5) Social Sciences: A minimum of 6 credit hours to include: PSY 110 Introduction to Psychology* PSY 210 Developmental Psychology: Life Span Approach 6) A minimum grade of C in all LPN and NUR courses.
Admission
Students are admitted in August for the day program conducted at the NCCC Summit Park Mall extension site.
All applicants must meet the following admission requirements: High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED). Satisfactory completion of all academic foundation requirements.
Applicants will be tested for academic foundations in reading, writing, and mathematics. To be accepted into the program, applicants must earn the minimum required score on these tets or pass the academic foundations course listed below:
If below required score in: You will need to pass: Writing ENG 099 Reading AAC 042 Mathematics MAT 004
These academic foundations courses do not count toward the certificate requirements.

Persons who have previously attended NCCC and would like to apply to the Practical Nurse program should contact the admissions office. Students who are currently attending NCCC, are matriculated in another program, and would like to apply to the Practical Nurse program should contact the Counseling Center.
Requirements to Remain in the Program
Upon acceptance into the Practical Nurse program, continued matriculation is contingent upon:
An acceptable physical examination report. Health records including a physical exam and immunizations must remain current for the entire period of enrollment in the Practical Nurse program. The student is responsible for all costs related to the physical examination report.
Certification in Basic Life Support for Professional Rescuer is required and must remain current throughout the entire program.
