    Four jobs for a nurse
    Wednesday
It’s hard to catch Angela Trogdon. As a registered nurse with four jobs, all in the health profession, Trogdon is quite busy.

Her main job is working in the cardiothoracic intensive care unit at the Medical University of South Carolina.

Trogdon also works part-time for the MUSC trauma helicopter as part of a three-person team responding to traumas throughout the tri-county area and beyond. Trogdon works all hours of the day and night, often working 24-hour shifts.

Trogdon’s third job is where she combines two loves as a major and a flight nurse with the United States Air Force Reserves. She is highly regarded by her peers and has served in Iraq twice. She also has served Hurricane Katrina victims, working as a flight nurse to help transport patients and help evacuate those who chose not to leave before the storm hit.

Recently, Trogdon was chosen to go to Dallas for the Women Airforce Service Pilots convention. There, she met female pilots, also known as WASPs, from World War II, gave them tours in the current Air Force aircraft and was a part of the celebration honoring them. The WASPs requested an all female crew for the event and Trogdon was chosen, along with a few other women, from the Charleston Air Force Base.

Trogdon’s fourth job is with the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center in Charleston as an ICU nurse. Her experience in the Air Force Reserves allows her to have a special connection with those she serves at the VA hospital.

As a teenager, the Charlotte native was inspired to become a nurse when she and her parents went to Africa on a mission trip.

In the year she lived in Africa, she helped midwives deliver babies and planned to return to Africa after graduating from nursing school. But after she entered nursing school, her career path changed to critical care.

Trogdon has now been a nurse for more than 20 years. She juggles four jobs at the same time, but her love and for and dedication to the health care profession remains strong and is evident in her service to her city, community and nation. source
