Questar III’s two-year Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program prepares students for a nursing career with comprehensive classroom instruction and hands-on laboratory and clinical work in local hospitals and long term care facilities. Students learn to plan and implement quality nursing care for patients and move these patients toward self-directed care.
To enter the program, students must: • take an entrance exam and achieve qualifying scores comparable to 12th grade reading level and a 9th grade math level • submit a completed application with three references and a biographical sketch • attend a mandatory 4-day pre-nursing seminar.
In order to practice in the lab and clinical care settings, students will be responsible for obtaining a physical examination complete with lab work and submit an up to date immunization record complete with Tuberculosis screening status.
This program provides 1,188 hours of classroom theory and clinical experience, which is a required to sit for the National Council Licensing Examination (NCLEX). Students who pass the NCLEX are permitted to be licensed to practice nursing in New York State.
Students completing this program may benefit from articulation agreements. Students can challenge up to 24 credits applicable toward an associate’s degree in nursing at Columbia-Greene Community College (challenge and testing fees are waived for Questar III graduates.) Articulation agreements with Ellis Hospital School of Nursing and Hudson Valley Community College allow students to earn college credits. LPN graduates may take advantage of New York State’s LPN to RN transition course, allowing them to progress to advanced standing at participating colleges. Questar III’s LPN program offers counseling and job placement services. Career fairs provide students with the opportunity to network with local hospitals, nursing facilities and other health care providers about employment opportunities available to graduates.
General Guidelines It is expected that students enrolled in CTE Programs are working towards a Regents Diploma, Regents Diploma with Technical Endorsement or an Advanced Regents Diploma with Technical Endorsement. Students with Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) will be considered on a case by case basis. IEPs need to be sent to the Director of Career Technical and Alternative Education.
