The medical assisting program at Warren County Community College isn't just good; it's perfect these days.

One hundred percent of the Spring 2008 graduates who sat for the American Association of Medical Assistants' Certified Medical Assistant (AAMA/CMA) exam earlier this year have passed.

"One hundred percent passed the exam and that is just terrific - you simply cannot do any better than that," said Marianne Van Deursen, B.S., CMA, director of the Medical/Dental Assisting Programs at WCCC. "We are proud of our students and their outstanding accomplishments."

The CMA (AAMA) certification is considered the gold standard of medical assisting professionalism. It represents a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) who has been credentialed by the AAMA Certifying Board. It is generally recognized that the CMA (AAMA) certification offers an individual a professional edge and gives them increased prestige among peers and employers, better job security, and greater career advancement opportunities.
Van Deursen noted that the Spring 2008 WCCC graduates who passed the exam had an average passing score of 582; more than 100 points above the national average of 478.
Van Deursen credited the students' success to "an exceptional instructional team and a student-centered learning environment that empowers the students to achieve their educational goals." She added that the students in this particular class were exceptionally motivated in the classroom and in their clinical externship.
"It is no surprise to me that they all passed," she commented.
