| Village Nursing Care: Certified Nursing Assistants program
|
| Thursday
|
A long-time private home care provider in Northeast Georgia has been approved to teach a course training Certified Nursing Assistants.
Village Nursing Care, founded in 1984 as Nursing Care Inc., was the first private home care agency to be licensed in the state of Georgia.
"We've been working for several years to bring this about,” Lang said. "The requirements for us to make this happen are pretty strenuous, but in order to ensure we are and remain fully staffed with fully skilled and trained field service employees, we wanted to take this step. It will enable VNC to be the best we can possibly be for our clients.”
The first CNA certification course is scheduled to begin Tuesday, Oct. 28 and will consist of class time, labs located at a combination of VNC headquarters and at Lanier Village Estates and off-site clinicals. Clinicals will give students hands-on experience in caring for clients under the supervision of professionals, and will be conducted at Lanier Village Estates' Willowbrooke Court Medical Center and at Mountain View Health and Rehabilitation Center in Clayton.
The first course will accommodate approximately 10 students. Cost for the course will be $550, with a $50 registration fee that applies toward tuition. Karen Barton, an LPN who has 15 years of nursing experience, will be the instructor.
CNAs work under the supervision of a nurse and handle care services that range from basic needs to technical assistance. Working as a CNA is also considered by many to be excellent training for those interested in becoming a Registered Nurse.
Requirements for the course include high school graduation or equivalency. Course work will include basic anatomy and physiology, an introduction to nursing skills, a focus on nutrition and how to recognize and treat infection. "We've planned the class schedule over a 10-week period to accommodate employed students,” Lang said. "Classes will be held two days per week to allow students to maintain a work schedule.”
Successful students will pass a final exam and receive a certificate designating them as Certified Nursing Assistants in the sate of Georgia.
Prospective students may call the Village Nursing Care office at 770-536-0484 to request an application or obtain more details about the course
