Lisa Scholl wouldn't trade her job for anything.
"I just love working here," said Scholl, a nurse manager at Orchard Manor nursing home in Lancaster. "I want to be out with the residents. They just naturally make you happy."
Cherokee Uniforms cited Scholl's attention to residents and her level of care when the company presented the Potosi resident with the Cherokee Inspired Comfort Award. Scholl is one of 10 honorees nationwide in 2008.
"Lisa is a phenomenal human being who goes above and beyond for her patients, and we feel honored to recognize her as a winner," said Wendell Mobley, director of Cherokee's charitable and scholarship programs. "She is truly top-notch."
Cherokee Uniforms presents the annual award to recognize nurses and other nonphysician health-care professionals who demonstrate exceptional service, sacrifice and innovation and have a positive impact on others' lives.
Award recipients receive an all-expense-paid trip to a 2009 medical conference, an annual membership to a clinical association, a $1,000 Cherokee Uniform Since the Cherokee Inspired Comfort Award was established in 2003, more than 6,900 health-care professionals have been nominated in the registered nurse, advanced practice nurse, licensed practical nurse/licensed vocational nurse, student nurse and nonphysician health-care professional categories. A panel of Cherokee representatives and past award recipients evaluates nominations and grants the awards.
For every nomination, Cherokee Uniforms donated $1 to Nurse's House, a national fund that provides short-term financial assistance to registered nurses facing serious hardship.
Scholl's most cherished result of the award is the nominating letter penned by Angela K. Pierce, Orchard Manor's former nursing director.
"She feels completely responsible for the 50 lives she cares for," Pierce wrote. "If she cannot sleep, she often comes to work hours early, because she is thinking about what needs to be accomplished to assure quality of care for her residents."
Pierce also noted that Scholl continues to provide care while struggling herself -- Scholl's mother passed away just prior to Mother's Day and she recently lost her grandmother.
Scholl said the letter took her by surprise and unleashed plenty of emotions.
"I just bawled," she said.source Vocational nurse training-Vocational nurse job |
